medicare? wait, then pay!!

I have been accepted for a decent retirement which should have made me an at least adequate living, but instead I discover I have yet and again been duped!!
retired_24_7_driver :: medicare? wait, then pay!!
I recieved my settlement letters 1 by 1 in the mail and as I read them it seemed that all the years of hard work had paid off.  Then the boom was lowered I recieved my backpay letter and it informs me that I will be ineligible for any type of healthcare coverage (especially medicare) for 2 years after recieving my first retirement benefits.  Not only that but when I do finally recieve my medicare I will have to pay 'according  to my income' for any medicare coverage I recieve.  Not only have I waited for my settlement without any income but I will now be spending the ENTIRE amount of my back pay toward medical.  I was hoping that I would have that $ to make a down payment on a home at least.  I have had 2 open heart surgeries not just cracking open my chest but actually opening up my heart to replace crucial parts. My valves are murmuring again so I may be forced into a third surgery.  If I have to have this surgery before my medicare becomes active I will forever lose my 'American Dream' of being a homeowner.  I like most Americans do not understand why an industry soooo desperately needed has become more costly.  My lady is diabetic and the cost of her supplies average out $600 a month. She has some medical, but nowadays it is a shame that medicare, which is the best coverage 1 can have now costs fixed income folks enough to reduce their funds to below poverty.
