To President Obama: Back At Ya....

by: RDemocrat

Sun Jul 25, 2010 at 11:42:59 AM EDT

You know for most of my life being a Democrat in a red area, I have constantly heard one thing. A lot of people here believe in a lot of the Democratic Party's ideals, but always state how they are too cowardly to fight for them when asked why they vote Republican. Well as much during the last few election cycles I have tried to convince them otherwise, this current crop of Democratic leadership who take their base for granted and cater to Republicans seems to prove their point. Now, the President is asking us to keep up the fight. All I can say is President Obama, back at ya...
RDemocrat :: To President Obama: Back At Ya....
I mean there are many reasons for us to give up. After giving our party huge majorities in the Congress and the White House it seems that we are still the only group that "compromises" anything and that our leadership would rather "reach out" to people who will always hate them instead of trying to do the work we all campaigned on. In case our leadership has not noticed, we have much complacency to be angry about:

In a year when Democrats are expected to lose seats in Congress, party leaders have grown increasingly concerned with malaise running through the left wing. Liberals who helped elect Obama in 2008 have grown disenchanted on issues from the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the failure to create a government-run insurance option in the health care overhaul, and many believe the White House has been too accommodating with Republicans.

Yes, it all started with Universal Healthcare. While many fine Democrats including John Yarmuth had the guts to stand up for HR 676 or Single-Payer, our leadership in the end had not even the courage to push for a Public Option. We are still mired in Afghanistan and Iraq wasting hundreds of billions of dollars and young American lives in wars we should not be in.

And yes, the White House and our leadership has been way too accommodating to Republicans. Why should we seek their input?? They crashed our economy and almost destroyed this country with their "vision", so what can they bring to the table that we should listen to??

The Employee Free Choice Act, which would rebuild the American middle-class and give working Americans something that the wealthy, corporations and yes politicians have had for a long time now, freedom is not even being considered. Now it appears as if any attempt to get the wealthy and Corporate America to pay their fair share after decades of a free ride will also flame out in the looming tax fight.

All we want from you Mr. President and our Democratic leaders is that you show the same passion and fight we have. Our country is much better off now no doubt than when Republicans were controlling government and tearing apart all our country was founded on but the fact of the matter is that with this Congress and President we needed more than damage control. We need real vision, real courage and real leadership. Not watered down versions of the Republicanism that got us here to begin with.

So if you really expect us to be encouraged about keeping up the fight show us that you are serious. Raise the tax rates on the rich. Bring our troops home. Give workers a small hope at entering the middle-class by passing the Employee Free Choice Act. Stop letting the people with the money make all the decisions and for God's sake stop catering to Republicans. They hope to continue destroying this country and in case you haven't noticed just as predicted here every time you reach out to them you pull back a bloody nub.

If you really want us to fight for you then you damn well better start fighting for us. Stand up to these Republicans and do what you were elected to do, defeat them. If not we are going to go down to flaming defeat this year and in 2012 and you will not be able to blame all of us "looney liberals". You will only have yourselves to blame as Republican control finishes off what little is left of the American dream.

The Democrats (4.00 / 2)
in Washington had a chance to stand up for real change, but they were either to afraid to stand up or they never really believed their own rhetoric. If the Democratic leadership doesn't believe their own rhetoric, then why should we believe it. I'm not listening anymore, I'm looking for results.

James Pence: "If America is really a Christian nation, then why do we need all the fine print, because that's where the Devil is."

We Both Are... (4.00 / 1)
Not just nationally but in many state parties. Here in Kentucky our state party really needs to get behind their candidates. We have Congressman Awesome Yarmuth, Waltz, Marksberry and Holbert who are all fine Democrats and need all our support.

We also have that Senate race thing going too.....
