It is no doubt that Mitch McConnell is a "leader"; in the modern Republican Party. After "leading" the charge to de-regulate everything, and "leading" the charge to rubber-stamp every failed policy of the worst President in modern American history and possibly ever it seems as if Mitch McConnell "led" the charge to crash our economy while he and his rich buddies pocketed hundreds of billions of dollars and got away scot-free.
Yes, if it is a policy that benefits the greediest and least patriotic among us, or corporate America, Mitch McConnell is all for it. However, now that America is paying the price for the greed and excess of men like Mitch McConnell, our most toothless Senator is conspicuously absent. No better example that the fight for healthcare in America. Fifty million people are one tragedy away from bankruptcy because of the greed and excess of the insurance companies and who does McConnell side with?? The insurance companies of course. I mean, he has his taxpayer funded coverage, so why should he care about the taxpayer?? He can not even respect us enough to make a dental appointment:
And now, right in tune with his party which has no original ideas, no new vision, and no solutions for the problems of real Americans, Mitch McConnell is once again doing what he does best. Denying millions of Americans and Kentuckians the change they need to side with his rich friends:
The Senate's top Republican says that lawmakers should focus on making the existing health care system work better before overhauling the way Americans receive treatment.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says that President Barack Obama's proposed health overhaul would result in massive government controls and would hurt the country.
The Kentucky Republican warns that if Obama gets his way, Americans would need government permission before receiving health procedures.
McConnell says that Obama's plan for a government health insurance program to compete with private insurance companies is a nonstarter for most Republican lawmakers.
A non-starter?? What is really a non-starter is the health insurance lobby making insurance affordable to 1.2 million of McConnell's constituents that desperately need it:
Approximately 1.2 million Kentuckians-32 percent of residents under age 65-were uninsured at some point in time during 2007-2008, according to a report released today by the health consumer organization Families USA. In fact, 852,000 of those uninsured Kentuckians, 72.8 percent of the total, were uninsured for six months or more during that time.
The situation is a reflection of what is happening nationwide. Approximately 86.7 million Americans-one out of three people (33.1 percent) under 65 years of age-were uninsured at some point during 2007-2008. The Families USA report is an essential supplement to commonly-used Census Bureau data, such as the 45.7 million people deemed to be uninsured for the entire 2007 calendar year.
"The huge number of people without health coverage in Kentucky is worse than an epidemic," said Ron Pollack, Executive Director of Families USA. "At this point, almost everyone in the country has had a family member, neighbor, or friend who was uninsured-and that's why meaningful health care reform can no longer be kept on the back burner."
Since McConnell has spent a quarter of a century creating the working poor in Kentucky, it seems he would want to help them. That is who is languishing in Kentucky without coverage, the working poor:
More than two-thirds of Kentucky's uninsured, or 68.7 percent, were in working families, working full- or part-time.
More than half, or 50.9 percent of those individuals and families in Kentucky with incomes below twice the poverty level-$42,400 of annual income for a family of four in 2008-went without health insurance at some point in 2007-2008.
In addition, more than one out of five, or 20.5 percent, of those individuals and families in Kentucky with incomes at or above twice the poverty level-$42,400 of annual income for a family of four in 2008-went without health insurance at some point in 2007-2008.
While whites accounted for the largest number of uninsured in Kentucky, African Americans were much more likely to be uninsured than whites: 44.4 percent of African Americans went without health insurance in 2007-2008, compared to 29.8 percent of whites.
"These startling numbers clearly document the seriousness of the problem and demonstrate what happens when a problem is ignored for too long," Pollack said. "It's important to note, however, that Congress and the President have already begun to address this serious issue by extending health coverage to 4 million more children.
Of course, McConnell even opposed extending benefits to our CHILDREN!! Even the health and welfare of children take a backseat to McConnell if it threatens the precious profits of his greedy enablers. If children are not even sacred to these folks, what is??
The truth is the "solutions" Mitch McConnell touts have already failed miserably for millions of Americans. The only reason to tout the status-quo is quite simply it is making McConnell and his ilk very rich. Who cares who else suffers??
The simple fact of the matter is that the health insurance companies and men like Mitch McConnell have had every chance to solve this crisis. Instead of putting the American worker first, they put their own interests and profits above the well-being of our country as a whole. They used greed to price Americans out of coverage, and deny coverage they paid for when they could afford it and had an ailment. These very "Americans" led by McConnell will continue to heartlessly deny progress in this country if allowed to.
Only a failed, corporate-controlled Senator would keep touting the same failed policies over and over again after they have been shunned by our country as a whole. So to McConnell, we get it. Your greed and idiocy will continue to fight against any kind of solution that works for America as a whole if it does not allow for you to keep putting billions of dollars into the accounts of the greediest and least patriotic among us.
Here is hoping McConnell does what he does best on this most important issue to millions of Americans, FAIL.
