Before Waving White Flags and Doing Victory Laps....

You know, all across the country Republicans and pundits are gleefully conceding the makeup of the next Congress to Republican control. Republicans are salivating at Mitch McConnell becoming majority leader and John Boehner being Speaker of the House. While the Democratic Party has nobody to blame but themselves for the cowardice they have shown in fighting for any real progress for America in the last two years before waving the white flag and watching the Republicans do a victory lap everyone should consider this. The Republican Party is still less popular than dog feces on the carpet and America still realizes that the Republicans are a party totally devoid of any clue.

Yes, before we move a tanning bed into the Speaker's office and the whole government of Communist China into the Majority Leader's chambers maybe all of this may be overblown. You see, despite the weakness and cowardice in really dealing with problems that face real Americans the Democrats have shown, the fact of the matter is that Republicans are viewed even lower.

One encouraging sign is that America still believes that Democrats have better ideas on moving America forward than Republicans and they still remember who caused all the problems faced by our country:

A case for Democrats: They are seen as having better ideas for solving the country's problems. The public steadfastly supports the president's proposal to let tax cuts expire for the wealthiest Americans. And far more people still blame Wall Street and the Bush administration than blame Mr. Obama for the country's economic problems.

And while Democrats are widely unpopular because of not fighting hard enough and selling out to Corporate factions of their party and the Republicans the truth of the matter is that America views Congressional Republicans as somewhere between dirt, and dog feces:

Voters have a darker view of Congressional Republicans than of Democrats, with 63 percent disapproving of Democrats and 73 percent disapproving of Republicans. But with less than two months remaining until Election Day, there are few signs that Democrats have made gains persuading Americans that they should keep control of Congress.

Americans also seem to realize that Republican ideas are the same old crap in a shiny new bag, and that they have absolutely no positive vision for moving the country forward, except more throwaways to the very rich:

Voters do not perceive Republicans as having better ideas and disagree with them on the biggest economic issue of the campaign - whether to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy  - a sign the party has no real advantage on key pieces of their agenda, which makes it more necessary to run as a generic alternative to the party in power.

Also, Independents seem very unimpressed by the radical and maniacal tea-party movement:

Nearly half of all Republican voters say they have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party. But the view of the movement among independent voters grew more negative since a Times/CBS poll was conducted in April. Now, 30 percent of independent voters have an unfavorable view of the Tea Party, with 18 percent holding a favorable view and more than half offering no opinion.

Also, while Republicans plan to run on only Obama bashing with no real substance or plans besides more Corporate Welfare, tax cuts for the rich and stealing Social Security, this strategy may be less successful than they envision:

With the Democratic majority on the line, and the outcome of the election seen as a referendum on the president, 45 percent of voters said Mr. Obama would not be a factor in their vote in November, while 23 percent said their vote would be for Mr. Obama and 25 percent said it would be against him.

Which brings me to this conclusion. Yes, Democrats deserve to be punished. The cowardice and complacency they showed after being given a huge mandate in cowering to Corporate influences within their own party and the Republican Party was inexcusable. However, as the day draws closer I think the American voter will wake up and realize what a train wreck of hatred, failed Corporate policies and right-wing idiocy the modern Republican Party has truly become. Allowing them any foothold into our government again would truly be the definition of mass insanity. In the end I believe Democrats will barely hold majorities in both houses. Let us hope they learn the lessons of cowardice and complacency.

Agreed (4.00 / 1)
The Democrats have put themselves in jeopardy by appeasing the Right Wing and abandoning their base. Some of us will have to hold our nose and vote for something less than we desire. That's what I plan to do. The stakes are too high to do otherwise.
