Exxon Ed Whitfield Wants it Both Ways

by: RDemocrat

Tue Jul 07, 2009 at 17:27:50 PM EDT

Exxon Ed Whitfield is as usual slightly confused. He seems to think he can have it both ways. His actions are reminiscent of the hypocrisy that is only known as Kentucky Republicanism. On one hand, he does not want his constituents to benefit whatsoever, but on the other hand he wants to complain about how much they do benefit.
RDemocrat :: Exxon Ed Whitfield Wants it Both Ways
Confused?? Yes, so am I. Thus is the perplexing world of the Kentucky Republican mindset. Exxon Ed Whitfield is upset. Why?? He says the people he "represents" are not getting enough stimulus money:

WASHINGTON - In the wake of news that the unemployment rate in the United States hit a 26 year high last month, U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget, questioning whether money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act intended to help create jobs and stimulate economies in areas hard hit by the economic recession have been appropriately distributed to places, such as Kentucky, whose unemployment rates are higher than the national average. In some areas of Kentucky, the unemployment rate is twice the national average.

"The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed to stop the staggering job losses sweeping the nation and help get our economy back on track," Whitfield said. "So it is very concerning to me that areas similarly impacted by the economic recession are not receiving similar levels of funding to help with recovery. Towns, cities and counties throughout the First Congressional District must receive their fair share of stimulus funds to help get Kentucky back on its feet."

But wait, is this not the same corporate shill and George W. Bush enabler who used his rubber-stamp to push every failed policy of the worst President in American history off on his constituents?? Is this not the same failed Congressman that has been in office for seven terms and has not done one thing to create or preserve high-paying jobs for his region??

In fact, if Exxon Ed Whitfield would have had his way, his constituents or nobody else for that matter would have seen one red cent to clean up the mess that he himself created over many failed years as a failed Congressman:

How can you vote that nobody gets any money because you rubber-stamped a crashed economy and then complain that you are not getting enough money?? Quite confusing indeed.

Of course, Exxon Eddie has never minded giving money away, it just has not been to the hard working Americans whose wages have stagnated:

Voted NO on extending AMT exemptions to avoid hitting middle-income.

Congressional Summary:Amends the Internal Revenue Code to:

increase and extend through 2008 the alternative minimum tax (AMT) exemption amounts;
extend through 2008 the offset of personal tax credits against AMT tax liabilities; Reference: Alternative Minimum Tax Relief Act; Bill H.R.6275 ; vote number 2008-455 on Jun 25, 2008

Voted NO on paying for AMT relief by closing offshore business loopholes.

H.R.4351: To provide individuals temporary relief from the alternative minimum tax (AMT), via an offset of nonrefundable personal tax credits. [The AMT was originally intended to apply only to people with very high incomes, to ensure that they paid a fair amount of income tax. As inflation occurred, more people became subject to the AMT, and now it applies to people at upper-middle-class income levels as well. Both sides agree that the AMT should be changed to apply only to the wealthy; at issue in this bill is whether the cost of that change should be offset with a tax increase elsewhere or with no offset at all. -- ed.]

Voted YES on making the Bush tax cuts permanent.

Vote to pass a bill that would permanently extend the cuts in last year's $1.35 trillion tax reduction package, many of which are set to expire in 2010. It would extend relief of the marriage penalty, reductions in income tax rates, doubling of the child tax credit, elimination of the estate tax, and the expansion of pension and education provisions. The bill also would revise a variety of Internal Revenue Service tax provisions, including interest, and penalty collection provisions. The penalties would change for the failure to pay estimated taxes; waive minor, first-time error penalties; exclude interest on unintentional overpayments from taxable income; and allow the IRS greater discretion in the disciplining of employees who have violated policies.

Voted YES on retaining reduced taxes on capital gains & dividends.

Vote to reduce federal spending by $56.1 billion over five years by retaining a reduced tax rate on capital gains and dividends, as well as.
Decreasing the number of people that will be required to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
Allowing for deductions of state and local general sales taxes through 2007 instead of 2006
Lengthening tax credits for research expenses
Increasing the age limit for eligibility for food stamp recipients from 25 to 35 years
Continuing reduced tax rates of 15% and 5% on capital gains and dividends through 2010
Extending through 2007 the expense allowances for environmental remediation costs (the cost of cleanup of sites where petroleum products have been released or disposed)

For those of you that do not speak Kentucky Republican this means that Whitfield always stands for the greediest and least patriotic among us. When it came time to vote for his constituents, who needed him he was asleep at the wheel:

Ed Whitfield

So, maybe Exxon Ed Whitfield needs to stop and rewind. His tenure as our Congressman has seen a myriad of failed Corporate Welfare policies rubber-stamped, and has seen him enable the crashing of the American economy. Now he wants to act concerned?? In the world of the greedy, narrow-minded, Corporate-whore Republican there is really only two things to be concerned with:

Eddie and Mitchie

Ed Whitfield, Mitch McConnell

I guess it is time to fire up the Exxon Whitmobile full of failed ideas for another tour around this huge district now that Kentucky taxpayers are paying out the wazoo for that high-priced diesel. With his stock options, he will make a bundle!!:

Whitmobile

Ed. Whitfield is (4.00 / 1)
an embarrassment, in my opinion. I hope the Kentucky Democratic Party will support the Democratic candidate that runs against him, this time around.

Mark Twain: "When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Kentucky because it's always twenty years behind the times."

Me too (0.00 / 0)
I just hope we  have one I can support, we'll work on the KDP later!!
