Al Jazeera
June 08, 2009 I received an email from Justin Weinstein asking me if I shot this video of Barack Obama. He was interested in the part where Barack Obama was saying "We're tearing up the Appalachian Mountains because of our dependence on fossil fuels." I emailed Justin Weinstein back and told him I did shoot the video of Barack Obama in Lexington, Kentucky Aug. 27, 2007 and I had the entire speech. Justin Weinstein emailed me back and requested the footage.

I didn't want want the Barack Obama footage used in a negative way so I called Justin Weinstein and asked why he wanted the video footage. He explained he and Peter Bull were putting together a documentary, for Al Jazeera English about mountain top removal In west Virginia. He reassured me the footage wouldn't be used for anything but that. I explained to him I wanted that in writing and he agreed.

Peter Bull emailed me the documents we agreed on, I signed them and they used the clip they wanted in their documentary below.

Crossroads GPS
They used the video I shot of Jack Conway in 2007 for one of their political ads without asking and without permission.

As far as I'm concerned the the difference between Al Jazeera English and Crossroads GPS is honesty and work ethic.
