The Battered Voter Syndrome

by: Hillbilly

Sat Jul 09, 2011 at 20:40:44 PM EDT

The American voter, in most cases, seems to believe they have two choices when they vote. The voter can vote Republican Or Democrat and choose between getting the shit kick out of them everyday or getting the shit kicked out of them every other day. It's a process the American voter has accepted and that's why I call it the "Battered Voter Syndrome."
Hillbilly :: The Battered Voter Syndrome

Most voters I know will go to any length to justify getting their ass kicked by the the politician and/or political party they're, for lack of a better word, married to. I call this denial.

Denial
Denial of "Battered Voter's Syndrome" occurs when the "Battered Voter" denies to others, and to himself/herself, that there's a problem. Most battered voters will make up excuses for why their political Party has kicked the shit out of them and the "Battered Voter" generally believes that getting the shit out of them will never happen again.

The political party and/or politician then lays a guilt trip on the "Battered Voter" by telling him/her I had to kick the shit out of you because you're a no good lazy son of a bitch looking for a handout and you're expecting too much from me and that puts me in a shit kicking mood. This takes the "Battered Voter" to guilt.

Guilt

"Battered Voter Guilt" occurs when a "Battered Voter" truly recognizes or acknowledges that there is a problem. The "Battered Voter" recognizes he/she has been the victim of numerous ass kickings and that he/she may get the shit kicked out of them again. During this stage most "Battered Voters" will take on the blame or responsibility of any ass kickings they may receive. "Battered Voters" will begin to feel guilt and question their own character and try harder to live up to the expectations of his/her political party.

Most people I know have a real need to be part of something, especially when it comes to politics. We've all seen folks stick out their chest and say I'm a God fearing Republican and all of you Democrats are baby killers. Then we hear other folks stick out their chest and say I'm a Democrat and  Republicans are money loving, hypocritical pseudo Christians. Then we sit back and watch while both parties Democratic and Republican start wars, pass job killing bills like NAFTA, allow folks on Wall Street to steal us blind, promote the outsourcing of American jobs, ignore off-shore tax havens, etc.. That's what I call an ass kicking and/or getting the shit kicked out of you!

So what should a "Battered Voter" do? Hope and pray the political party that's kicking the shit out them will change, or are there other choices the "Battered Voter" hasn't even considered? How about a divorce from the kicking the shit out of you two party system? Or just not participating? Can you imagine what would happen if we had an election and nobody voted? Don't even try to tell me it's my civic duty to vote for a politician or political party that's kicking the shit out of me, I ain't falling for that phony guilt trip bullshit.

The American political system is broke. It ain't my fault and I ain't taking responsibility for the mess our two party political system has put us in. The time has come for the "Battered Voter" to stand up to the political parties doing the battering or continue to get the shit kicked out of them. I'm for the former rather than the later. I've had enough and Hell hath no fury like a voter scorned.

AMEN BROTHER, (4.00 / 1)
There has been a lot of talk on the AFL-CIO blog about a Labor Party, but that will never fly,as much as I would love to see it work, because of the black eye the repubs. have put on unions lately. Remember when Ross Perot ran and he was winning until he dropped out?The times are ready for a new movement that will attract the left and the middle. "HILLBILLY FOR PRESIDENT",I damn sure would vote for you!!!THANKS PAL...

Can I have an Amen (4.00 / 1)
I'm voting for Russ Feingold. Him or Bernie Sanders...

Amen (0.00 / 0)

Battered Voter Syndrome (4.00 / 1)
SOLID GOLD brother Pence! There it is in a nutshell. And once you get to this point, things can change.
They have been playing the voters just like a batterer plays the person they are abusing, but our eyes are open. And when we share this info with enough of our friends and family, a shift will take place and the scoundrels will shake in their boots.
The idea is to vote for the person you genuinely believe has the best character and has proved by his actions that he believes in the founding ideas of this nation. A person who knows what's best for the working people is best for America. What's best for Main Street, not what's best for Wall Street.
It's time to declare our independence again! Our independence from politicians who ship our jobs out from under us. Politicians who pass legislation to enable bankers and Wall Street investors to run a scam until they crash our economy and then give them our tax money to start it up again while they cut more jobs and threaten to take back what we've invested! Politicians who pass smoke and mirror legislation with titles that say one and thing and do another like the Dodd-Frank act. The 5 biggest bank/investment/insurance conglomerates are bigger than before the crisis of 2008 and they will fail again. Maybe this year, maybe next or who knows, but they will fail because they are running a scam.
FORCING our battering bullies in Washington to pass H.R. 1489 which separates the banks from the insurance and investment companies will send a strong wake up call.
EVERYBODY call or better yet, visit the office of your Congressional Representative and DEMAND they co-sponsor H.R. 1489 which will put the old Glass-Steagall Act provisions back in place that separate commercial banking from investment ventures. Call/visit your Senator and DEMAND they introduce a companion bill to H.R. 1489 and no funny business. Call/visit your State Representatives and Senators and DEMAND they introduce or support a resolution supporting the passage of H.R. 1489. Call/visit your Council representative and demand that they introduce and support a resolution supporting the passage of H.R. 1489.
As Pogo said "we have met the enemy and he is us." It's us because we have been voting them in even though they aren't working for us. We are on to their game and we can leverage our vote now that we know we can't count on the party favorites. They are the favorites because they will play ball with the big boys/girls. That keeps us mired in politics as usual.
HAVE COURAGE. Vote your conscience. Anybody but the party favorites. It's really that simple. Let go of the fear of letting the other party get in. For all intent and purposes, a version of the other party has been getting elected anyway. What do you have to lose?
Don't fall for the mind game that by voting for anyone but the two party favorites you are a spoiler. YOU CAN'T SPOIL WHAT'S ALREAY ROTTEN!
