Hal Rogers and Republicans in the House Seek to Slash Healthcare, Jobs

Republicans in the House have a problem. While trying to seek out ways to implement the draconian Ryan Budget and give more huge giveaways to themselves and those they truly represent they have a funding shortage. Yes, it appears as if the greediest and least patriotic among us are having trouble finding more money to steal from us. Their solution?? At a time when healthcare costs are skyrocketing and jobs are scarce for millions of Americans they will slash funding for both.

The greed shown by these folks is really ridiculous. Instead of asking those who crashed our economy and got bailed out once to sacrifice they seek to balance the budget on the backs of working Americans essentially bailing themselves out once more with huge tax breaks. Just look at their plans for our budget:

Compared to the Senate spending plan, the House will increase baseline military spending by $8 billion in 2013 to $519 billion. The House will then cut the Labor, Health and Human Services budget by $7 billion to $150 billion, and the State Department budget by $9 billion to $40 billion, compared to the Senate plan.

Other bills also receive reductions, with Financial Services getting $2 billion less - a sum likely to be taken from President Obama's financial reform efforts - Agriculture getting $1 billion less and environmental programs getting cut by $1.6 billion.

The spending figures now need to be approved by the full Appropriations Committee, something that is all but certain. Whether the cuts materialize for the 2013 fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 is another matter. Last year, controversial bills like the Labor title, which was filled with deep cuts and policy riders, did not make it out of committee and onto the floor before House leaders struck the August spending accord with the White House, which set the top-line number for 2012 as well as 2013.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said in a statement that he will work with the Senate to ensure funding is continued for important programs.

In other words in lieu of the 1% paying their fair share Republicans are seeking to gut financial reform that would keep them from imploding upon their own greed once more. They are seeking to slash aid to farmers and funding that insures companies do not pollute at will.

But of course that is not enough. They also seek to slash funding that would help put Americans back to work and insure the working poor have access to healthcare. All the while they will beef up defense spending and make damn sure the 1% get their precious tax cuts.

In an election year Republicans are showing who they really care about and it surely is none of us. They will sacrfice workers, seniors, children and our standing in the world for one thing. Greed. Their greed and the greed of the very few that have destroyed our country.

It is up to us to stop them this fall.
