Tea Party Forgetfulness

by: RDemocrat

Thu Apr 16, 2009 at 12:08:48 PM EDT

Yesterday in my hometown of Paducah, the Conservative Paxton Media Group organized a "Tea Party". While I did not attend because I was working I did get to listen to some of it on the radio. The culmination was my Congressman, Exxon Ed Whitfield giving a speech and taking the signatures back to Washington.

Now, the first thing that struck me was the accent of Exxon Eddie. What kind of an accent is that?? It is evident that he definately did not have a Western Kentucky accent.

The second thing that struck me was his speaking against so much reckless spending by the Congress and the President. But wait a minute. Where was Ed Whitfield when all the policies were enacted under the last President that caused our economy to crash?? Was he in Washington preaching "fiscal Conservatism" then? Did he really care when money was being wasted and going to the very rich, the oil companies and Halliburton?? No, he did not. In fact, he even HELPED push through  the policies that bankrupted our country and made all this spending by Obama and the Democratic Congress necessary to keep our economy from contining to crumble. Ed Whitfield talks a good game but where was he when the taxpayers of this state and country needed him the most?? Here:

Exxon Eddie and W

Yes, despite all his big talk Exxon Ed Whitfield was right there beside President Bush rubber-stamping all the wasteful failed policies that got us to this point. Of course, he muttered not even a whimper of protest as the money was horded to the very rich destroying the economy for the rest of us. Of course, since a lot of it was horded to him why would he??

On one other note, Exxon Eddie made it a point to attack an editorial in the Louisville Courier-Journal at the first of his speech. Now, curiosity led me to go and see just what he was talking about. In doing so I realized why he wanted to rip it so badly. It told the simple truth about those who were holding their little "tea parties":

Yes, many Americans are uncomfortable with the high cost to taxpayers of the bailouts. Yes, many Americans feel the spending is out of control, and that they have little control over how national leaders are handling the economic crisis. We get that.

Question: Where was all this outrage when the nation's savings account was opened and the dollars were flying out, when the nation's credit card was being swiped again and again to pay for wars that weren't even showing up in the nation's budget? Suddenly, there's a new president and, boom, instant tea parties.

We also have a historical beef. At the heart of the Boston Tea Party, which has inspired today's tea motif, was the reality of taxation without representation; the colonists were being ripped off by the British government, not their own. We have representation. If enough of us feel they're ripping us off, we have the right to overturn them every couple of years, and we just did that.

I could not have said it better myself. Where was all this concern?? The very people who caused this mess are organizing protests to try and cover for the fact that our party is now in charge of cleaning up their dismal failures. All the attendees of these "tea parties" who voted Bush/Cheney into office need to stop, and take a good hard look in the mirror before they start assessing blame on the rest of us.

Now, like the Courier-Journal I am all for Americans organizing and protesting peacefully anything they see fit. However, I believe that these "tea parties" came about five years to late and the very people who are so fired up about fiscal responsibility need to realize that when the money was being wasted that crashed our economy under a Republican President who very well may have been the worst chief executive ever, they were suspiciously mum.

are about 8 years late and trillions short.

Where were all these tea parties while no-bid contracts were being passed out?? When President Gump sent us into the wrong country without the proper training and equipment for our troops?? Mum!!

Who here remembers the toothless, blustering resolutions Republican legislators tried to pass in 1993, when Bill Clinton took office, declaring their intention to ignore federal laws and mandates they don't like?  Well, they're at it again.  Many state legislators, including ones right here in Ohio, have submitted old copies of the resolutions.  Some of the revised versions border on threats to secede from from the Union or declare it null and void.
