For a group of zealots that constantly want to put their "faith" to the forefront the radicals in the Tea Party sure have a funny way of showing their love for God. First, you had the poll that shows a majority of Tea-Baggers think they should pack heat in the House of God. Now, one of their sweethearts from the last election has desecrated a sacred site in the holy land.
When Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas walked beside the Sea of Galilee, familiar from the bible as where Christ found disciples and actually walked on water what did he do? Did he fall on his knees and worship or feel humbled to walk on the same shores Christ and his disciples did?? No:
Representative Kevin Yoder (R-KS) apologized today for skinny dipping at the holy site of the Sea of Galilee during a Congressional trip to Israel last August. Yoder, a Tea Party freshman, was one of about 20 visitors who joined the late night swim. According to Politico, however, Yoder was the only one who jumped in without any clothing.
"A year ago, my wife, Brooke, and I joined colleagues for dinner at the Sea of Galilee in Israel. After dinner I followed some Members of Congress in a spontaneous and very brief dive into the sea and regrettably I jumped into the water without a swimsuit," Yoder said in a statement to Politico. "It is my greatest honor to represent the people of Kansas in Congress and [for] any embarrassment I have caused for my colleagues and constituents, I apologize."
Indeed, far from feeling humbled or falling to worship at such a sacred and holy site, Yoder felt compelled to jump into the Sea of Galilee in his birthday suit.
To me this successfully sums of the Tea Party movement. They want to shove religion down our throats in the national discourse but deep inside their own hearts are filled with so much hatred and hypocrisy they would desecrate sacred places where Christ actually walked.
So my message to the Tea Party zealots?? Practice what you preach our shut your stupid mouths. And my message to Rep. Yoder? Go to Hell:
