Kentucky Lawmakers Defend Obama School Speech

by: RDemocrat

Sat Sep 05, 2009 at 11:06:01 AM EDT

In the midst of yet more lunacy that has arisen over President Obama by the Right-wing looney tune machine over the President giving an address to school-age children about the importance of staying in school and getting an education many folks across the country have changed policies to allow children of parents who have a problem with their children watching Obama to pull thier children out of the speech for "alternative activities".
RDemocrat :: Kentucky Lawmakers Defend Obama School Speech
Ignoring the fact that Presidents before him have directly addressed children in school and in fact their own god-king George W. Bush was reading "My Pet Goat" in a school when the 9-11 attacks occurred and froze him like a deer in the headlights in front of aforementioned school children these hate-filled, idiotic and in many cases flat out racist stooges wanted to pull their children out of school that day.

Personally, I feel no concessions should have been made to any of them on this and that if they removed their children from school for unexcused reasons they should have to answer to the truancy laws where they live, of course concessions were made for the most hate-filled and maniacal among us with schools offering alternative activities. In Kentucky, we were no exception:

"The commissioner had heard that some parents may pull their children out of school on Tuesday because of the president's speech," she said.

"In lieu of that, he suggested alternative activities for them at the schools."

Now, two state representatives have stepped forward to object to this move by schools by stating the obvious:

Two Democratic state representative from Louisville - Jim Wayne and Darryl T. Owens - expressed opposition Friday to state Education Commissioner Terry Holliday's decision to allow students to skip President Obama's speech next week to the nation's schoolchildren.

"Our commissioner should support teachers who decide their students will benefit from hearing a message from the president about studying hard and staying in school," Wayne said in a statement.

"We shouldn't be afraid to let students know that their nation's leaders value their success in school."

Owens said the president is not making a political speech. "He's simply urging students to value their opportunity to learn and set high goals for themselves - a message we should be supporting.

"The only politics involved come from those spreading misinformation about the nature of the address."

It is a sad day indeed in this country when we have become so full of hatred and ignorance that our President, whatever party he may be cannot even encourage children to stay in school and succeed and point out the benefits for their own futures in doing so.

Some people just need to step back, take a few deep breaths and deal with it. I did not want my tax dollars used to deal out death and to nation build in Iraq but I had to get used to it. I did not want my President to crash our economy into a ditch by letting his rich, greedy buddies pick it clean but I had to deal with it. All this hatred is making our country look like a bunch of backwards, ignorant, unenlightened idiots to the whole world.

Some people really need to grow up because they act old enough to sit in on Obama's speech themselves. Many thanks to two lawmakers for standing up and trying to inject some sanity on this.

Good Job! (4.00 / 2)
Thanks for posting. I had almost thought no one was going to stand up. This is a disgrace that people like this and the ones at the Town Hall meeting are getting all the press. 300 people in Seattle Washington, rallied for health care reform the other day and not even their home town paper mentioned it. Some one is brain washing the population of this country and I think we all know where it's coming from. We need to have some progressive voices for people to listen to for a change.
BTW it's too late people over seas already think we're backward, ignorant, unenlightened idiots, this just validates it.

Thanks for the reply. I really wish we could find some way to snatch up some of these radio stations and start competing with the lunatic right-wingers!!

Best wishes!!
