"Never before have so few with so much promised to take away so much from so many and then laugh their asses off as the so many with so little vote for the so few with so much." A James Pence Quote
"American Politics, a sport for the rich and enslavement for the rest of us." A James Pence Quote
Rand Paul is once again doing what he does best. Showing his complete ignorance. In his never-ending quest to send America spiraling into anarchy he seeks to attack anything the government does. Unfortunately for him he attacks with idiocy, not facts.
The Mad Doctor has once again made a fool of himself and the folks in Kentucky who elected him. On ABC this morning he was schooled by Paul Krugman on the expansion of government jobs under President Obama. Watch:
Yes, as always with Republicans and especially tea-bagger zealots the fact never seem to match their extreme propoganda. The fact of the matter is that Republicans, not President Obama had greatly expanded government employment:
As Krugman quickly pointed out on his blog, the answer is "less." Now, perhaps Sen. Paul was thinking of employment by the federal government alone, which did tick up just slightly: 2.77 million at the end 2008 versus 2.8 million currently. But add in state and local government jobs, and the hard number for government employment dropped by around 600,000 after Bush left office.
As a matter of fact, the share of jobs in the economy provided by the public sector went up following the 2001 recession under George W. Bush, the 1990 recession under George H.W. Bush, and the 1981 recession under Ronald Reagan. Only after the latest recession, which hit just before Obama took office, did the share of public jobs drop.
It all boils down to the simple fact that after the election of Barack Obama Republicans did not want our country to recover. Their "leader" Mitch McConnell said as much by stating the Republican goal as making Obama a one-term President over allowing working families to recover. In retrospect, they did just that by watering down the stimulus:
In no small part this is due to another point Krugman made - that the stimulus, while large, was inadequate to the country's needs. This has been particularly true in the area of state aid. Spending cuts at the state level overtook additional spending at the federal level in late 2009 and have been driving a contraction in the public sector ever since.
The result? While the bankers and Wall St. were bailed out, average working Americans like us were left behind and sacrificed to Mammon by the Republican Party.
So while Rand Paul is entitled to his own ignorance he is not entitled to his own facts. If the America he and others like him envisioned ever came to fruition it would destroy everything we hold dear about freedom.
That is why we must continue to fight the greed and uncaring idiocy of Republicans like Rand Paul.
