Stand With Bernie Sanders: This Day We Fight!!

In the budget "negotiations" to avert the physical cliff one thing must happen. Democrats must stand with the American people and stand firm. We need to let Washington know in no uncertain terms we will not allow them to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the sick, working Americans and children. Any compromise must include the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts for the very wealthy.

With that in mind Sen. Bernie Sanders is doing what he always does. Fighting for the majority of Americans. Today he is calling for Americans to join with him in calling on politicians in Washington to hear their voices and achieve deficit reduction in a fair way.

From an email:

President Obama and the Democrats won a decisive victory on Election Day. The people have spoken and the Democratic Leadership must make it very clear that they intend to stand with the middle class and working families of our country, and not the Big Money interests. This means that in the coming weeks and months the Democrats must hold the line in demanding that deficit reduction is done in a way that is fair -- and not on the backs of the elderly, the sick, children and the poor.

He goes on to remind Americans of the fact that Social Security does not add one cent to the deficit and should be protected, not destroyed:

Let me be clear. Social Security has not contributed one penny to the deficit because it is funded independently by the payroll tax. In fact, the Social Security Trust Fund today, according to the Social Security Administration, has a $2.7 trillion surplus and can pay 100 percent of all benefits owed to every eligible American for the next 21 years. Social Security, as well as Medicare and Medicaid, must be protected.

And at a point in American History when our country desperately needs Democrats to fight for the principles their party was founded on, Sanders states the obvious:

Right now, the Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of this year. That means the only way that Republicans can extend tax breaks for the wealthy and cut vital programs is if Democrats let them.

Go here to sign the petition to let Washington politicians know that we expect them to do the right thing and fight for all Americans for once:

Indeed no deal is better than a bad one. But the best deal would be that this time Democrats do not just lay down and die, this day it is time we fight!!
