During the "fiscal cliff" negotiations we have heard all kinds of ridiculous statements from Republicans as they try to absolve themselves from sacrifice and balance the budget on the backs of the working poor, seniors, children and the disabled by stealing away Social Security and Medicare. They believe that if they are to raise the debt ceiling and ask themselves and those they truly represent to sacrifice to the problems they created that they should get something in return. It appears as if redistributing all the America's wealth to themselves in the last thirty years is not quite enough. Now they insist on stealing away social programs that have long kept millions of Americans an inch above poverty.
Today's events in the "fiscal cliff" negotiations should show Americans one thing. Republicans have gone on offensive in their all-out war against most of America. They are showing in no uncertain terms that they simply do not care what Americans want or what is best for them. Their only goal is what it always has been. To redistribute wealth upwards to a very few and keep it there, and to leave working middle and lower class Americans to foot the bill for the excesses of the last thirty years that they did not share in.
In his shameless attempt to shield the greediest and least patriotic among us, himself included from sacrificing to the economy they crashed and the debt and deficit they ran up the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell is calling out all the stops. However, as always his arguments are not only selfish they show a simple ignorance of recent history. Today China's favorite Senator in Washington has unleashed a new talking point. "Wealth Destruction".
We have been saying it for a long time around here and once again it is ringing true. While Republican "leaders" play lip service to "bi-partisanship" and "compromise" to them this really means only one thing. That they themselves do not come to the table and offer any concessions whatsoever. And even as members in their rank and file break away and at least consider doing the will of the American people to Republican "leaders" compromise consists entirely of them getting everything they want and giving up nothing in a shameless attempt to shield the greediest and least patriotic among us, themselves included from sacrificing to the mess they made.
Republicans are up to their old tricks. In their never-ending quest to balance the budget on the backs of working Americans while giving themselves a free pass no lie is too big. However as always it boils down to only one big lie. The lie Republicans push that letting the Bush Tax Cuts for the very rich expire will hurt "small businesses".
Republicans sure have short memories and they are getting even shorter with time. In President Obama's first term they convienently forgot the fact that their policies, proposed by President George W. Bush and enacted by a Republican Congress decimated our country and crashed our economy. They forgot that their tax policies which favored the rich and Corporations did nothing to create jobs and in fact caused the loss of millions of jobs. Now, it seems as if after the American people spoke loud and clear earlier this month Republicans want to forget all about that too.
Mitch McConnell is doing what he does best. Around here, we call him the Senator for Communist China for a reason. That is because he thinks America should be much more like the oppressive Communist regime in China. That way, no matter what people think or what Americans want McConnell can feel justified in destroying Democracy. Now, after this election Mitch McConnell is planning to do just that again.
You know in the last few years and during this election a lot is being said about our country's debt and the deficits that pile up yearly. While Republicans seem intent on balancing the budget on the backs of working Americans and the poor one thing can easily be done that would save almost a trillion dollars over ten years and would help the economy as a whole. However, when you mention it you will get much howling and gnashing of teeth from Republicans. Yes, a simple solution to saving money and getting our economy on track is simply to let the Bush Tax Cuts on high-end earners expire.
As always for working Americans when something good happens, something bad is always waiting in the wings to shoot it down. Such is the case today. While Democrats in the Senate barely mustered the votes to end the Bush Tax Cuts for the very wealthy one thing is certain. Certain death awaits in in the Republican controlled House. Even worse, Republicans are determined to hold tax cuts for all Americans hostage to keep the very wealthy from paying more and no lie is too big to tell you about why the 2% of people they really represent should not pay their fair share.
Mitch McConnell and John Boehner are quite predictable. To them, only one America exists and that is the America in which no lie is too big to protect the interests of the rich and powerful elites like them. They know no decency or shame as long as that is just what they are doing. They care nothing about their country or anyone within as long as they can use their power to keep the good times rolling for themselves and their ilk. Now, once again they are telling the big lie in hopes that we will not make them sacrifice anything towards the problems they were so instrumental in causing.
The battle is heating up once again on extending the Bush Tax Cuts for the very wealthy. This time it appears as if the President might actually fight on this issue. The facts bear out that the very wealthy just have not been paying their fair share. They speak of patriotism, but refuse to sacrifice one thing for the betterment of our country as a whole. Now today, the argument between President Obama and Mitt Romney is heating up again.
In a videotaped message to the fourth Netroots Nation conference of his administration President Obama had a simple message to Progressive activists that had hoped his election would signal a change in the direction of our country. His message? "Change is hard". Indeed, for a man elected with such soaring "hopes" for "change" by a country that was starved for a leader that would simply fight for the interests of our country as a whole and not the selfish very few, change has been coming very "hard". In fact, we have seen little change at all.
The Republicans want to portray themselves as "deficit hawks". They constantly maintain that slashing spending on the social safety net millions of Americans depend on and lowering taxes on themselves and those they represent will bring the deficit down and help the economy. After thirty years of this failed "trickle-down" idiocy on thing is clear. Due to the definition of insanity we should be fitting the whole Republican Party and many of the Democrats for a strait jacket.
The Republican Party really has some nerve. They are constantly whining about having to sacrifice for the problems that they themselves created. They are a party of hypocrites suffering from mass selective amnesia. Their choice of a "responder" to President Obama's State of the Union speech should tell America all they need to know about the sorry state of the modern Republican Party.
It is no secret to any American that is informed and wants to accept the truth. The modern Republican Party for decades has been waging an all-out class war upon the middle-class and working people. The newest Presidential frontrunner, Newt Gingrich is not only promising to continue this war but now is apparently one-upping Rick Perry in giving huge breaks to the 1% while sticking to the rest of us. In this day and age it is no suprise he is leading the primary to represent the party of the greediest and least patriotic among us.
As if Americans needed another reminder of just how bad income inequality has gotten more numbers are out for Americans to read and weep. While the "super-committee" was far too cowardly to deal with the costly, ineffective and unfair Bush Tax Cuts a sorry fact has emerged. It seems as if the top 1% are making more of a tax break than the rest of us are making in salary for a year.
If you just mention the thought of the wealthy paying their fair share Repubicans wail in horror. That is "class warfare" and would unjustly punish the "job creators" who somehow aren't creating jobs with cash reserves and low taxes already. While this may explain things in the little old world fantasy they live in the truth is simply another matter. You see all across America millionaires are paying a smaller tax rate than folks making much less money yearly.
If this doesn't wake America up to the idiocy of "trickle-down" policies that have dominated the last few decades I do not know what will. It seems that the hording of our nation's wealth to the very few is hurting one group of Americans in particular. Our children. New statistics are out that show American children are being still being crushed by not only the economic downturn but the refusal of politicians to seriously tackle the jobs crises much sooner.
After taking over the House of Representatives Republicans promised us all one thing. Jobs. Now months into their tenure they have not created a single job anywhere. Their main focus?? Tax cuts for themselves and the greediest and least patriotic among us while doing nothing to put Americans to work. In fact, it seems as if their only idea is to insure Americans that are working are in danger doing with massive deregulation designed to give away even more to those already with so much.
