The Beyond Coal campaign has become one of the greatest success stories in the modern American environmental movement, effectively halting the construction of new coal plants and bringing about a major shift in U.S. energy policy.
WHAT THE BEYOND COAL CAMPAIGN HAS ACCOMPLISHED SINCE 2002
MORE THAN 142 DIRTY COAL PLANTS SLATED TO RETIRE Specific “planned retirement” plants have announced retirement dates, mostly by 2015 or sooner. We plan to retire 1/3 of the dirty coal plants in the U.S. by no later than 2020.
MORE THAN 403 OUTDATED BOILERS SLATED TO RETIRE Each coal-burning plant has varying numbers of boilers, and so far, 403 coal boilers in the U.S. have been announced for retirement. We plan to retire the remaining 900 no later than 2030.
ALMOST 54,000 POLLUTING MEGAWATTS ANNOUNCED FOR RETIREMENT An average coal-burning plant uses 500 megawatts of energy, which powers roughly 260,000 houses a year. Our goal is to retire nearly 300,000 more polluting megawatts from coal plants and replace them with clean energy to power American homes and businesses.
50,000 CLEAN ENERGY MEGAWATTS INSTALLED As old coal plants retire, Beyond Coal is working to make sure that clean energy such as wind and solar step in to replace them, providing many new jobs for American workers.
Despite bipartisan opposition to SB 1062, Arizona’s controversial measure allowing businesses to refuse service to LGBT individuals on the basis of religious liberty, conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation maintained support for the bill in a blog post on Tuesday.
We all know Elaine Chao can speak up when she wants to. She didn't have a problem speaking up to American workers when she said this:
Allgov.com “American employees must be punctual, dress appropriately and have good personal hygiene,” said Chao. “They need anger-management and conflict-resolution skills, and they have to be able to accept direction. Too many young people bristle when a supervisor asks them to do something.”
So Elaine Chao's silence concerning her employer's position on Arizona's anti-gay bill SB 1062 tells me she's just fine with the Heritage Foundation's position supporting Arizona's anti-gay legislation.
National Review A year later, a seat on the Finance Committee came open. DeMint had sought to join the committee repeatedly in the past, but McConnell gave the seat to Senator Richard Burr, who had never previously expressed interest in it.
After that, DeMint abruptly left the Senate to take over the Heritage Foundation, where McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, works. From his new perch, he has prompted all kinds of ire by transplanting some of his Senate tactics to the think tank. The result is that while the Heritage Foundation may have never been less loved by Republicans in Congress, it has also never been more feared. Read more.
This is beginning to look like a cheap soap opera. Former Senator Jim DeMint launched the Senate Conservatives Fund PAC before he took the helm of the Heritage Foundation. Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnell's wife, works for the Heritage Foundation and Jim DeMint is her boss. This is is getting juicy.
We all know Elaine Chao can speak up when she feels it's necessary and can even call out racism and/or xenophobia, real or perceived, when it comes to her. However when it comes to her employer hiring someone like Jason Richwine to write a report on immigration she, Elaine Chao clams up and all we hear from her is crickets.
As you can see, in the video below of the 1988 Republican National Convention, Mitch McConnell's wife Elaine Chao is representing California. Mitch McConnell also has San Francisco, California ties. Personally don't have a problem with that, but I do have a problem with Senator Mitch McConnell calling out Ashley Judd and others for doing the same thing he and his wife have done. It's hypocritical! Mitch McConnell Representing Kentucky And Elaine Chao Representing California, at the 1988 Republican National Convention.
I have been silent so far on the firestorm started by Progress Kentucky with their remarks about Elaine Chao, former "anti"-Labor Secretary and wife of the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell. While I do not condone racism of any kind and normally do not believe that spouses of candidates should be included in some of the nastiness of campaigns I do believe in retrospect that a little bit of perspective about this so-called "racist" tweet would go a long way.
While doing some research I ran across Elaine Chao's Google Plus page and according to her Google Plus profile she lives in Washington, DC. Knowing full well Elaine wouldn't fib about where she lives, I decided to check it out and sure enough I found a $1,227,220 piece of property in Washington, DC. that belongs to Mitch McConnell, 217 C St NE, Washington, District of Columbia 20002 to be exact, and according to Block Shopper Elaine L. Chao was the property seller and Elaine L. Chao and Mitchell A McConnell were the buyers. Mitch McConnell paid $10,430 in property taxes on the property in 2012.
Media Matters Fox News contributor Elaine Chao has recently appeared on Fox Business to criticize Obama over the economy and push the falsehood that he stripped the work requirement from welfare. During these appearances, Fox didn't disclose that Chao is a national chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. Fox News has made it a regular practice to not disclose some of its frequent guests' ties to the Romney campaign. Read more.
The Heritage Foundation Elaine L. Chao is a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, where she works on jobs, employment, trade, workforce and competitiveness issues. A popular speaker, she is also a Fox News contributor.
While Senator Mitch McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao are enjoying the sweet life, paid for with our tax dollars, folks like Susan Mary Collins have to be creative when seeking the health care they need.
Kentucky.Com "It was the easiest way to get myself thrown into prison without having to hurt anybody or really do anything," she said at the time.
Collins said she had suicidal tendencies, post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. The structure of prison helped her cope with her conditions, she said. Read more.
We have just celebrated the fourth of July signifying the independence of the United States from Britain. We are NOT independent, however. Elaine Chao , wife of United States Senator Red China Mitch McConnell vowed to cement ties with Red Communist China and the United States. In November of 2008 there were enough stupid people in Kentucky to allow this to happen.
The Democrats have decided to call out Goldman Sachs for for shitty deals, oh my, I'm use to "Shitty Deals" from both Democrats and Republicans. When the Republicans and Democratic President William Jefferson Clinton passed NAFTA, that was a "Shitty Deal." When George W. Bush pushed to give his rich pals a big tax break, that was a "Shitty Deal."
Onearth Jack Spadaro became a whistleblower trying to protect the public from mining disasters. For his trouble, he was forced out of his job at the US Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). In Martin County, Kentucky, in 2000, a 300 million gallon slurry pond dam collapsed, causing one of the worst environmental disasters in US history. That toxic spill was 20 times larger than the Exxon Valdez oil spill, which generated a lot of press coverage. When he investigated, he found that Massey Coal, the owner, had known for 10 years that the dam was going to break.
Does $100,000 from Massey Energy to the Republican Senate Campaign Committee, headed by Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell ring a bell. How about a toxic cover up?
In a reversal from the previous disgraceful Labor Department led by the wife of the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell, none other than Elaine Chao new Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has a message for employers that would steal their worker's wages. She is also trying to inform vulnerable workers of their rights by launching the "We Can Help" campaign that will address other topics such as workplace safety and help inform workers how to file a complaint against their employers with the Labor Department.
Senator Mitch McConnell sir, when you say we have the finest Health Care system in the world I have to wonder who the we are. Are you pregnant or do you have a mouse in your pocket? Or could the we be you and Elaine. After all sir you and Elaine do have very good Health Care plans, paid for by folks like me.
Senator Mitch McConnell sir, are the health Care expenditures for you, Elaine, your senator friends, their spouses and children Revenue Neutral, or Deficit Neutral, or is Revenue Neutral, or Deficit Neutral something that applies only to folks like us that are funding your socially subsidized health care plan?
