Employee Free Choice Act

To President Obama: Back At Ya....

by: RDemocrat

Sun Jul 25, 2010 at 11:42:59 AM EDT

You know for most of my life being a Democrat in a red area, I have constantly heard one thing. A lot of people here believe in a lot of the Democratic Party's ideals, but always state how they are too cowardly to fight for them when asked why they vote Republican. Well as much during the last few election cycles I have tried to convince them otherwise, this current crop of Democratic leadership who take their base for granted and cater to Republicans seems to prove their point. Now, the President is asking us to keep up the fight. All I can say is President Obama, back at ya...

Rand Paul and the Right to Work for Less

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jul 05, 2010 at 01:52:19 AM EDT

The Rand Paul campaign was really proud of the $2500 their campaign received from the National Right to Work for Less Committee. Of course there is a very good reason for that. The National Right to Work Committee is an extremist group and as we all have seen Rand Paul is an especially extremist candidate. He opposes the right of Americans to have and maintain a middle-class and falls into the most helpless realm of corporate apology and welfare condoned by his new mentor, Mitch McConnell. The difference is, Rand Paul was undisciplined enough to tell you how Republicans really feel about you.

Rand Paul: "Work at McDonald's"

by: RDemocrat

Fri Jun 18, 2010 at 19:53:28 PM EDT

Rand Paul does not seem to know what letter is flashed in front of his name on the T.V. shows. It is an (R). As a Republican he indeed has a very short memory as to what has caused all the problems we are now facing. Deregulation. Corporate Welfare. Coddling Corporations by appointing Corporate shills to oversee their own industries and practices. Now, after the disaster that was the Bush Administration and the destruction heaped upon our economy and workers Rand Paul is showing just how out of touch with reality he can be.

A Platform You Can Believe In? The 2008 Democratic National Platform - Renewing America's Promise

by: Hillbilly

Sun Jun 13, 2010 at 00:13:27 AM EDT

Is The 2008 Democratic National Platform - "Renewing America's Promise" worth the paper it is written on? Do elected Democrats take this promise seriously? Did the builders of this Platform "Renewing America's Promise" do it with a wink and a smile knowing full well it was all bull shit? Maybe the Democratic Platform builders could just copy and paste the Republican Platform, because that seems to be what they really believe in.
Where were these platform builders and where was their outrage during the Health Care debate?
Want my opinion? OK here it is. The platform builders are all words and no action, in other words, bull shit artist hoping and praying we have short memories.
Let me make my case.

Think You Have the Right to Organize? Think Again

by: RDemocrat

Mon Apr 26, 2010 at 05:44:49 AM EDT

It is no big secret that the middle-class has become an endangered species in this country. It is also no surprise that this has coincided with the war waged upon our unions in this country over the last several decades. Think you have a fair right to join a union?? Think again. Employers are constantly engaging in legal and illegal activities to prevent workers from forming and joining unions to negotiate for better wages, benefits, and lives.

Solis Launches Drive to Combat Theft of Worker's Wages

by: RDemocrat

Mon Apr 05, 2010 at 15:30:08 PM EDT

In a reversal from the previous disgraceful Labor Department led by the wife of the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell, none other than Elaine Chao new Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has a message for employers that would steal their worker's wages. She is also trying to inform vulnerable workers of their rights by launching the "We Can Help" campaign that will address other topics such as workplace safety and help inform workers how to file a complaint against their employers with the Labor Department.

First Contract Arbitration Facts Dispel Corporate Myths

by: RDemocrat

Tue Mar 30, 2010 at 17:26:10 PM EDT

Now that the Healthcare fight has ended in a disappointment for many of us it is time to move onto other fights and show some real fights. Especially the fights where the facts are on our side. It is time that we fight for the Employee Free Choice Act because the facts are on our side and it is far past time the middle-class saw a rebound. You see, one fact is that First Contract Arbitration does nothing to kill "small businesses".

John Waltz Gaining Well Deserved Momentum

by: RDemocrat

Sat Mar 13, 2010 at 23:45:52 PM EST

I wrote a few diaries several months ago about a Democratic newcomer in Kentucky politics when John Waltz announced his run here, here, and here. While I very much liked what Waltz was saying, I wondered about his ability to mount a race as a newcomer and in Kentucky's Fourth Congressional District. However, as this race is progressing John Waltz is proving to be an extremely viable candidate as well as being a real fighting Democrat. Now, Waltz's campaign is picking up steam and with our help could mount a real challenge to put Republicans on defense this fall in at least one previously secure district.

Service-Type Jobs Drive Working Poverty in America

by: RDemocrat

Mon Feb 15, 2010 at 12:37:12 PM EST

With the apparent death of manufacturing in America the service industry has taken over as a major employer in our country. With over 13 million workers, the restaraunt industry seems to be particularly booming. However, unfortunately for the young folks growing up in this "Lost Generation" for jobs, these jobs are thankless and provide little in the way of wages, benefits and job security.

Obama to Announce Middle-Class Relief Measures

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jan 25, 2010 at 11:40:52 AM EST

With the current setbacks in election results President Obama is trying to retool his message and offer measures to give relief to the middle-class. While some of it sounds good, to me it seems as if it will fall short in really helping some middle-class folks. Another huge problem is it seems to not address the real underlying problem, the RE-BUILDING of our middle-class which has been disappearing.

To Avoid Further Defeat...

by: RDemocrat

Thu Jan 21, 2010 at 21:50:32 PM EST

There are many reasons being floated about for the loss of Ted Kennedy's seat. While the media will spin it how they want it as a lifelong Democrat I know what has happened. Our leadership has become almost as beholden to special interests and Corporate money as Republicans and it has made our party just as despised as the Republicans.

Economic Hardship Increases Need for the Employee Free Choice Act

by: RDemocrat

Tue Oct 27, 2009 at 16:56:23 PM EDT

With the ever-encompassing debate over healthcare another Progressive initiative that is greatly needed has been overlooked in the last several months. The Employee Free Choice Act is still desperately needed to even the playing field for American workers, and the recent trouble in the economy despite what some will say has only deepened the need. As pointed out in one great piece, with the current crashed economy it seems as if once again the only ones who are feeling the pinch is the working American.

A Real Winning Democratic Strategy for 2010

by: RDemocrat

Mon Oct 12, 2009 at 21:50:02 PM EDT

One thing I keep seeing a lot about is how Democrats are going to lose in 2010. Everyone seems to be wandering what strategy they can come up with to hang onto the House and Senate. A lot of people want to predict doom and gloom for our party and they may be right. However, I believe the strategy they think we should impose misses the mark.

Younger Workers Get Even More Bad News

by: RDemocrat

Thu Oct 01, 2009 at 21:48:21 PM EDT

We have been detailing at some length of the diminishing opportunities faces the young in this country. Not only the diary just linked, but an earlier one here. Now, as if young Americans needed it even more disturbing news is coming out about how the policies of the last several decades, some supported by both parties are killing opportunity for young workers and threatening to make them the first "Lost Generation" in our history who actually will make less and be worse off than their parents or grandparents.

Recession Widens Gap Between Rich and Poor

by: RDemocrat

Mon Sep 28, 2009 at 22:15:14 PM EDT

It seems like the one constant that can be depended on in this country anymore in good times or bad is the fact that working folks are working harder and harder and simply are not getting ahead. Even before the Republican recession last year wages have stagnated for decades and the gap between rich and poor has only widened as our middle-class continues to shrink. New numbers show that while incomes across the board have fallen, the recession has once again hit middle and lower class working Americans the hardest.

Baucus Compromise Stalling Again

by: RDemocrat

Tue Sep 15, 2009 at 12:13:31 PM EDT

Some of the best news that could come out today has the Baucus junk compromise on healthcare stalling in the "Gang of Six". This bill is also getting nervous glares from governors in both parties as it will force their already cash-strapped states to foot huge amounts of the costs of any healthcare reform through Medicaid. As predicted, Republicans on the panel and Republicans in general are going to oppose any kind of reform to the system.

McConnell: Management "Enlightened"

by: RDemocrat

Thu Sep 03, 2009 at 22:39:38 PM EDT

I am always apolegizing to the entire enlightened world for Mitch McConnell. This time I must do it because Mitch McConnell definately does not know the meaning of the word "enlightened". In a ridiculous argument against the Employee Free Choice Act McConnell once again proved that when it comes to understanding the problems that face working Americans he definately needs to brush up some on his history.

AFL-CIO Details "Lost Generation"

by: RDemocrat

Thu Sep 03, 2009 at 00:53:42 AM EDT

One of the key components to the American Dream has always been that one generation wants their children to be more secure than they were. For many generations this pattern seemed to play out nicely as the middle-class was created and thrived. However, Corporate control of our elected officials and government has reversed that trend. With outsourcing, and other cost-cutting measures young workers today face huge challenges and very well may see their their own future security be less than their parents.

CNBC Compares EFCA to Iran Elections

by: RDemocrat

Tue Jun 16, 2009 at 15:16:23 PM EDT

A while back CNBC ruffled feathers by trying to minimize the greed of corporate CEOs in the crashing of our economy. Luckily, the were called out on it by Jon Stewart. Well, now they are at it again. As if those statements were not ridiculous enough, now they are comparing the Employee Free Choice Act to the elections in Iran.

Fight Back in the War Against Organizing

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jun 08, 2009 at 12:20:48 PM EDT

It is no secret that corporate America will do anything to stop the Employee Free Choice Act. They have become spoiled, fat and sassy off the virtual slave labor they so very much love to exploit. Then, when American workers do exercise their god-given right to negotiate a fair contract, corporate entities do everything in their power to circumvent the process.
