Fiscal Cliff

A Victory? That Remains to be Seen

by: RDemocrat

Tue Jan 01, 2013 at 15:54:02 PM EST

With the "fiscal cliff" deal that was reached and passed by the Senate many are claiming both victory and doom and gloom. While I definitely think that we could have had a better "deal", I will concede that I definitely believe we would get much worse. However, one thing that is certain at this point. Nobody can breath a sigh of relief or declare victory or defeat until the looming debt ceiling debate is over.

"Fiscal Cliff" Negotiations Break Down Again

by: RDemocrat

Sun Dec 30, 2012 at 16:32:27 PM EST

When the news came out yesterday that Harry Reid and the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell were being tasked with coming up with an agreement on averting the "fiscal cliff" many of us held out little hope. With Mitch McConnell as part of the negotiations there were only two options. Either no deal at all, or a horrible deal that sought to balance the budget on the backs of the working poor, seniors and children while giving folks like Mitch McConnell a free pass. Well now the best thing possible has happened. Those talks have broken down.

Lindsey Graham and the New Attempt To Steal Social Security

by: RDemocrat

Sun Dec 30, 2012 at 13:51:59 PM EST

We haven't even gotten a "fiscal cliff" agreement yet. Even though President Obama has already offered up "chained CPI" to steal just a little of American's Social Security it is not enough for Republicans. Even though Social Security has never added a single penny to the national debt they were determined to use the "fiscal cliff" as a shameless attempt to steal Social Security in exchange for making tax rates on wealthy Americans what they should be to begin with. Now that it seems they will fail because of their own greed in stealing too much Social Security in that battle they are moving on to the next battle to attempt to steal Social Security from younger generations of Americans and not so slowly phase out that program.

Hey America Lets Go Cliff-Diving

by: RDemocrat

Sat Dec 22, 2012 at 01:14:33 AM EST

It is probably the best thing that has happened in the whole "fiscal cliff" fiasco. The Prince of Orange John Boehner suffered a humiliating defeat to his own radical caucus and left Washington without doing his job in disgrace. And while the Republican "Plan B" was shot down in flames the President and his post re-election ideas are just about as bad. And of course since its best for America that both Boehner and Obama's latest "compromises" are rejected the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell is calling for something he hasn't wanted for four years. For the Senate to pass a bill.

My Message to Democratic "Leaders": Again?

by: RDemocrat

Wed Dec 19, 2012 at 02:59:44 AM EST

The news today if true about the "fiscal cliff" negotiations is not only quite disturbing, but equally as much perplexing. I guess it should not be. The modern Democratic Party with a few exceptions has long been very good at this. Through cowardice or complicity or whatever reason you might believe the Democratic Party always seems to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. No wonder they can never keep power for too long and can never enact an agenda to stop decades of trickle-down economics. Americans believe they talk a good game but are too cowardly to do anything about it. And you know something? They are for the most part spot on.

On "Fiscal Cliff" Washington Ignores America Again

by: RDemocrat

Tue Dec 18, 2012 at 15:38:56 PM EST

No matter what party controls the White House or Congress one thing is ringing true time and time again. The politicians in Washington care little about the will of the American people and instead hope to impose their own elitist will upon the rest of us. These "fiscal cliff" negotiations are becoming the latest example of the "screw you" attitudes of politicians in both parties. Because although the American people have spoken, and continue to speak loud and clear on this issue Washington politicians simply refuse to listen.

Make That Call For Us All

by: RDemocrat

Mon Dec 10, 2012 at 19:41:30 PM EST

Even with our big election victory Progressives have much to fear. Democrats have long been good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and managing to capitulate in the name of "bi-partisanship" even when a vast majority of Americans want them to fight for what is right. Sadly, in the fiscal cliff negotiations Progressives must again be very afraid. Will Democrats sacrifice Social Security and Medicare to "compromise" with Republicans??

"Manning Up"??

by: RDemocrat

Mon Dec 10, 2012 at 17:26:01 PM EST

During the "fiscal cliff" negotiations we have heard all kinds of ridiculous statements from Republicans as they try to absolve themselves from sacrifice and balance the budget on the backs of the working poor, seniors, children and the disabled by stealing away Social Security and Medicare. They believe that if they are to raise the debt ceiling and ask themselves and those they truly represent to sacrifice to the problems they created that they should get something in return. It appears as if redistributing all the America's wealth to themselves in the last thirty years is not quite enough. Now they insist on stealing away social programs that have long kept millions of Americans an inch above poverty.

My Thoughts on McConnell, Boehner and The "Counter-Offer"

by: RDemocrat

Mon Dec 03, 2012 at 22:31:38 PM EST

Today House Republicans saw fit to insult America with their "counter-offer" in the fiscal cliff negotiations. Well, not to be outdone the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell had to add his own personal insult to Americans. You see, Republican "leaders" care nothing about the will of the American people or America itself as long as they can keep the good times rolling for themselves.

Republicans Insult America With "Counter-Offer"

by: RDemocrat

Mon Dec 03, 2012 at 18:02:46 PM EST

Today Republicans have made their "counter offer" in the fiscal cliff negotiations. No surprises here. Instead of coming up with their own original ideas the Republicans are rehashing the plans introduced by Erksine Bowles last year to the failed "deficit super committee". As you can guess with anything the modern Republican Party puts it's stamp on this "counter-offer" is simply a giveaway to the greediest and least patriotic among us and seeks to balance the budget on the backs of seniors and by stealing away the social safety net from generations of younger Americans.

The Culmination of Republican "Ideals"

by: RDemocrat

Mon Dec 03, 2012 at 16:50:39 PM EST

We are seeing it now. The culmination of decades of Republicans "starving the beast" in order to do one thing. Be able to cry wolf about time-honored government programs causing huge deficits driving up our debt so that they can begin the process of phasing out and eventually eliminating Social Security and Medicare. The worst thing possible Democrats and grassroots Americans can do is let them.

Republicans Go For a Decisive Win In Their Class War

by: RDemocrat

Fri Nov 30, 2012 at 22:43:10 PM EST

Today's events in the "fiscal cliff" negotiations should show Americans one thing. Republicans have gone on offensive in their all-out war against most of America. They are showing in no uncertain terms that they simply do not care what Americans want or what is best for them. Their only goal is what it always has been. To redistribute wealth upwards to a very few and keep it there, and to leave working middle and lower class Americans to foot the bill for the excesses of the last thirty years that they did not share in.

McConnell and "Wealth Destruction"

by: RDemocrat

Thu Nov 29, 2012 at 15:50:14 PM EST

In his shameless attempt to shield the greediest and least patriotic among us, himself included from sacrificing to the economy they crashed and the debt and deficit they ran up the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell is calling out all the stops. However, as always his arguments are not only selfish they show a simple ignorance of recent history. Today China's favorite Senator in Washington has unleashed a new talking point. "Wealth Destruction".

Stand With Bernie Sanders: This Day We Fight!!

by: RDemocrat

Thu Nov 29, 2012 at 15:06:19 PM EST

In the budget "negotiations" to avert the physical cliff one thing must happen. Democrats must stand with the American people and stand firm. We need to let Washington know in no uncertain terms we will not allow them to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the sick, working Americans and children. Any compromise must include the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts for the very wealthy.

Boehner Shuns Compromise, Repeats the Big Lie

by: RDemocrat

Wed Nov 28, 2012 at 16:25:04 PM EST

We have been saying it for a long time around here and once again it is ringing true. While Republican "leaders" play lip service to "bi-partisanship" and "compromise" to them this really means only one thing. That they themselves do not come to the table and offer any concessions whatsoever. And even as members in their rank and file break away and at least consider doing the will of the American people to Republican "leaders" compromise consists entirely of them getting everything they want and giving up nothing in a shameless attempt to shield the greediest and least patriotic among us, themselves included from sacrificing to the mess they made.

Will America Fall for the Big Lie Once Again?

by: RDemocrat

Tue Nov 27, 2012 at 16:19:26 PM EST

Republicans are up to their old tricks. In their never-ending quest to balance the budget on the backs of working Americans while giving themselves a free pass no lie is too big. However as always it boils down to only one big lie. The lie Republicans push that letting the Bush Tax Cuts for the very rich expire will hurt "small businesses".

Republicans Continue Trying to Steal SSI Benefits From the Young

by: RDemocrat

Mon Nov 26, 2012 at 20:53:16 PM EST

In the last two Presidential elections young people have shown up and been a major factor in electing and re-electing President Obama. There is a very good reason for this. You see, these young voters may be just a little more savvy than the "experts" give them credit for. And while these experts have come up with several reasons why the young have voted for Obama maybe the truth is more simple than they want to admit. Maybe young folks have begun to realize what Republicans really have in store for them.

Tell Mitch McConnell: Listen to America!!

by: RDemocrat

Mon Nov 26, 2012 at 18:51:02 PM EST

Republicans sure have short memories and they are getting even shorter with time. In President Obama's first term they convienently forgot the fact that their policies, proposed by President George W. Bush and enacted by a Republican Congress decimated our country and crashed our economy. They forgot that their tax policies which favored the rich and Corporations did nothing to create jobs and in fact caused the loss of millions of jobs.  Now, it seems as if after the American people spoke loud and clear earlier this month Republicans want to forget all about that too.
