Many of us here were opposed to the Iraq War from the start. I simply did not ever understand why being attacked by a group and leader of that group supposedly centered in Afghanistan meant that we needed to go into Iraq. Despite many long years and thousands upon thousands of lives lost, not to mention the hundreds upon hundreds of billion dollars wasted we are still mired in that country. Now, the Vice-President is admitting how much of a huge mistake it was to go into that country. However he, and the administration should take it one step further.
Would a physician remove a patient's heart, throw the heart in the garbage, place a IOU for his/her charges where the patients heart use to be and then complain that the patient's vital signs indicate the patient is dead? Of course not, but I suggest this is what the politicians, Democrats and Republicans have done to middle America. The heart of middle America has been removed and a big IOU has been put where the heart use to be. Middle America's heart wasn't put in the garbage, the heart was divvied up and given to Corporate interest, China, India, Mexico, Wall Street, Military contractors, off shore banking accounts, etc.
It is no secret to many of us that this country has needed a Progressive direction to correct many of the problems it faces for some time now. I was born in 1970 and have seen exactly three Democratic Presidents in my life. The damage done by Conservative Presidents has been disasterous, and the Democrats elected have seemed to only keep us running around in circles while no real change is imminent to repair the damage.
Many of us have argued against the Iraq War for some time now and more of the cost and scope of the failure in that war is emerging as it begins to come to an end. At a time when America is debating whether to invest in it's own people or not, I think we should remember that a great many of the Senators that will be debating Universal Healthcare if they even vote to do that were all for the extended war in Iraq and the wasted money invested there.

I think it is important to remind your fellow Americans in your own way how we got where we are today. It may seem obvious to many of us but with a 24 hour cable news cycle and loads of misleading bullcrap thrown around people can easily forget. I tend to prefer a rather in-your-face approach but however you do it I think that writing comments and diaries around the web refreshing folk's memories is a good idea.
President George W. Bush gets a presidential daily briefing on August 6th 2001 "Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S." and does nothing. Sure enough, Al-Qaeda strikes in the United States on September 11, 2001. Despite lots of tough talk from the president and his knuckle-dragging Neanderthal cronies, Osama Bin Laden is never captured or killed. Instead, Bush and the chickenhawks figured we should attack Iraq because they might have weapons of mass destruction and would welcome us with flowers and candy anyway. How were Haliburton, KBR and Blackwater supposed to rake in huge profits if people were not fighting and dying in some pointless war? The sensible thing to do now, Bush thought, would be to cut taxes for wealthy Americans and corporations while fighting two wars. Are we having fun yet? While spending money like drunken sailors themselves, republicans thought the whole country should join in the fun. Go shopping! We were all proud citizens of the “Ownership Society”. Everyone was encouraged to borrow and spend money like crazy! After all, the government was doing it! Deficits are not that important! Look how good the economy is doing! In your face Clinton! Soon the moral majority was in full swing with tons of cash, disgusting video footage and photographs from places like Abu Ghraib prison, Walter Reed hospital and New Orleans. They celebrated their finest leaders like Mark Foley, Larry Craige and Ted Haggard in their very own gambling casino-madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey whorehouse-megachurch-of-America. Then it happened. Their whole phony house of cards came tumbling down just like many of us predicted it would. A horrible worldwide economic meltdown, massive deficits and debt, hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost, countless people left bankrupt and destitute and a shattered and shameful reputation around the globe. Vote republican for competent governance, fiscal responsibility and of course, moral values!
9-11 should not be a political statement for anyone. It should be a sad day of remembrence that many people died because of hatred and incompetence. However, since the very day it occured it has constantly been used as a hammer to pound the agenda of a miguided bunch people with an unenlightened vision of the world down everyone else's throat.
Of course by now nobody has to be told that today was the eighth anniversery of the 9-11 attacks. This event served as the Kennedy assasination of this generation, an event everyone remembers where they were when it happened and an event that some will forever dispute. No matter what anyone's feelings on the wars that sprang up into response for these events one thing remains true.
Senator Mitch McConnell sir, when you say we have the finest Health Care system in the world I have to wonder who the we are. Are you pregnant or do you have a mouse in your pocket? Or could the we be you and Elaine. After all sir you and Elaine do have very good Health Care plans, paid for by folks like me.
Senator Mitch McConnell sir, are the health Care expenditures for you, Elaine, your senator friends, their spouses and children Revenue Neutral, or Deficit Neutral, or is Revenue Neutral, or Deficit Neutral something that applies only to folks like us that are funding your socially subsidized health care plan?

Her most cited activities were demonstrations at Camp Casey outside of President Bush's ranch in Texas.
You know, much adeu has been made of comedian Al Franken joining the Senate. Well, it comes to find out he is not the only jokester in this Congress. John Boehner's comments today are not only a joke, but they reek of serious amnesia. Maybe during the pounding his narrow-minded, visionless party took last year he could have taken a shot to the head or something.
A funny thing has happened. After years of questioning the patriotism of Democrats who opposed the War in Iraq Republicans have rethought their positions. Now, they do not want to fund our troops in a time of war and want to "cut and run" and "surrender" in the "War on Terror".
We all know Mitch McConnell has a problem with Barack Obama. We know he opposes a a stimulus for anyone but the rich and railed against President Obama's budget which gives money to Americans besides men and women like Mitch McConnell. However, in one area Mitch McConnell sounds very appreciative of the new President.
We all remember the no-bid contracts we were so opposed to under the last administration. Now, it has long appeared that all the crimes committed on all levels in this fiasco will go unpunished. Although we are still far from punishing the lies and propoganda unleashed on the American people to start this war, after a court ruling hopefully at least part of the rampant fraud that will cost Americans well over a trillion dollars will be punished.
