The Minimum Wage and The Two Americas

by: RDemocrat

Mon May 20, 2013 at 23:34:08 PM EDT

In the primary of 2004 and 2008 there was a reason I supported the Democrat I supported for President. Despite the eventual personal failings of the candidate the message of Two Americas put forward by John Edwards really resonated with me. Of course there is a good reason for that. That message has a lot of truth behind it. I do not really believe there is any doubt whatsoever that the economic policies of our government for the last thirty years have really only succeeded in doing one thing well. Creating Two Americas. One of the very few and very rich who really do get to live by a different set of rules and get preferential treatment. Another of all the rest of us who work harder and constantly find it harder to get by. Nobody is on our side.

Seven In Ten Americans Demand a Wage Increase

by: RDemocrat

Thu Mar 07, 2013 at 09:17:44 AM EST

It appears that Americans may not be as ignorant as Conservative politicians think. Evidently it has not been lost on Americans that in the last few decades wages have stagnated for a huge majority of Americans while the folks at the very top, the so called "job creators" have seen their fortunes skyrocket. Indeed it appears that if Americans know there is plenty of money to go around but for some reason it is staying in place at the top. That is why although they have been bombarded with the usual false arguments Americans are widely supporting an increase in the minimum wage.

Two Ungodly Senators and a "Modest Pittance"

by: RDemocrat

Mon Mar 04, 2013 at 11:42:36 AM EST

Unfortunately in Kentucky we can take credit for one thing. Electing the two most unholy and god-awful people that ever "served" a state at the same time in the United States Senate. Chinese Communist Mitch McConnell and "Aqua-Buddha" High Priest Rand Paul. Neither of these men have any morals or scruples except this. They intend to continue the raping of the poor and middle-class and redistribute what little of American wealth these folks are still allowed upward to themselves.

Consider the Source of Minimum Wage Arguments

by: RDemocrat

Thu Feb 14, 2013 at 11:40:54 AM EST

Now that President Obama has proposed raising the minimum wage you will hear the same, tired arguments from the same selfish people about why it should be kept low. Of course this is no big surprise. A very few people in this country are making huge profits and salaries by keeping most of us in poverty. That is why when you listen to the arguments of those who would keep your wages low you should consider the source. Most of the time it will be coming from people who have things very good at the cost of the rest of us and who hope to keep the good times rolling for themselves.

The "Trancendent Issue of Our Era"

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jan 28, 2013 at 04:36:30 AM EST

Fresh off their humiliating defeat in the debate about what has really caused the problems that have beset our country Republicans just cannot give up on one thing. Using the debt they ran up with their failed wars, tax cuts for the very rich, deregulation that crashed the economy and three decades of trickle-down economics to convince Americans to allow them to steal the social safety net we try to enjoy. Indeed in their selfish little world they will blame everything but the real problem for our debt and deficits. Their own greed.

McConnell and "Wealth Destruction"

by: RDemocrat

Thu Nov 29, 2012 at 15:50:14 PM EST

In his shameless attempt to shield the greediest and least patriotic among us, himself included from sacrificing to the economy they crashed and the debt and deficit they ran up the Senator for Communist China Mitch McConnell is calling out all the stops. However, as always his arguments are not only selfish they show a simple ignorance of recent history. Today China's favorite Senator in Washington has unleashed a new talking point. "Wealth Destruction".

The Agenda of the Very Few Spelling Doom for Romney/Ryan

by: RDemocrat

Mon Sep 17, 2012 at 13:11:30 PM EDT

The Census Bureau's recent report on poverty and income inequality show one thing. If a Romney/Ryan ticket is elected into the White House in 2012 it will be a disaster for working Americans. That is because working Americans are already seeing their fortunes slide as income inequality is growing. Come to find out Republican ideas would only accelerate the problems that have beset our country.

Tipped Workers and the Minimum Wage Fight

by: RDemocrat

Sat Jul 21, 2012 at 01:00:24 AM EDT

In my opinion the single most pressing problem for our economy and our Democracy as a whole is the festering cancer of income inequality that has arisen in the last few decades. To me, it is not that hard to see that if a very few people are the only ones who have any spare money to spend it will be very bad for the economic well-being of our country as a whole. Combine the fact that the top 1% continue to be allowed to horde all our nation's wealth to the top with the disasterous Citizens United ruling and it is not hard for anyone to see where the biggest threat to freedom in America is coming from. It stems from the fact that in America it is beginning to look like one very small group of people are always going to have the best government they can buy.

EPI: CEOs Made 231 Times Workers Salaries in 2011

by: RDemocrat

Thu May 03, 2012 at 01:52:25 AM EDT

The top 1% and their apolegists in Washington have some nerve. They are shamelessly trying to gut the American social safety net after outsourcing our jobs, running up our debt, crashing our economy and coveniently being bailed out for doing it. Their huge tax breaks over the last three decades have fostered an income inequality that simply will not allow our country as a whole to recover economically. Now, as they prepare to fight to take even more from the American dream a report from EPI is showing just how much nerve they actually have.

Ryan Plan to Ignore the Real Need of America: Jobs

by: RDemocrat

Thu Mar 22, 2012 at 17:47:58 PM EDT

There are so many problems with the Republican vision of greed introduced by Paul Ryan that it is hard to name them all. It appears as if Republicans will never be satisfied until they steal every penny available from working Americans and our economy. The worst part of the Ryan budget is not only the complete uncaring greed it exhibits but the simple fact that it fails to address the biggest problem in America right now. Indeed, it actually costs jobs instead of creating them.

As Deep Poverty Skyrockets the 1% Rob Us Blind Again

by: RDemocrat

Wed Mar 07, 2012 at 16:23:02 PM EST

It is very easy to see why the Occupy Wall St. movement gained so much traction. In the last thirty years the top 1% of Americans have enjoyed huge gains while the rest of us have seen our incomes stagnate or even regress. Even though their own greed crashed the economy and caused them some losses with the corresponding Great Recession one thing has become evident. While incomes for the top 1% are once again skyrocketing the rest of us are being shut out of the American dream as always.

John Waltz: Rededicating Ourselves to Economic Justice

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jan 16, 2012 at 22:14:40 PM EST

The fight for the White House is just one fight in 2012 in which we must mobilize. In every Congressional district in the country we should be fighting door to door to win back control of the House of Representatives from the corporate zealots who now run that chamber. In doing so however we must be very careful. This time around we need not only support Democrats, but real Progressive Democrats who will not sell us out once in Washington.

The Top 1% Make More in Tax Cuts a Year Than We Make

by: RDemocrat

Sat Nov 26, 2011 at 20:56:02 PM EST

As if Americans needed another reminder of just how bad income inequality has gotten more numbers are out for Americans to read and weep. While the "super-committee" was far too cowardly to deal with the costly, ineffective and unfair Bush Tax Cuts a sorry fact has emerged. It seems as if the top 1% are making more of a tax break than the rest of us are making in salary for a year.

Tax Fight Brings the Same Decision to Working Americans

by: RDemocrat

Mon Oct 17, 2011 at 21:00:23 PM EDT

If you just mention the thought of the wealthy paying their fair share Repubicans wail in horror. That is "class warfare" and would unjustly punish the "job creators" who somehow aren't creating jobs with cash reserves and low taxes already. While this may explain things in the little old world fantasy they live in the truth is simply another matter. You see all across America millionaires are paying a smaller tax rate than folks making much less money yearly.

How Occupy Wall St. Could Save the American Economy

by: RDemocrat

Fri Oct 14, 2011 at 15:52:22 PM EDT

Finally in this country we have an uprising against the powers that be and the real culprits that have wrecked the American economy. As detailed here and other places, the rampant greed of the 1% has brought down not only the American economy in the last several years but it has brought working America to it's knees with unemployment, stagnate wages and the loss of the American dream. However, all this aside one fact remains true. When the very few horde all the national treasure from the rest of us it not only is un-American and selfish, it is harmful to our country and it's economy. As it turns out in the long run it is damaging to the greedy few without taxpayer bailouts.

The Facts Show Why Occupy Wall Street Protests Could Save America

by: RDemocrat

Wed Oct 05, 2011 at 17:52:24 PM EDT

As the fight continues to "Occupy Wall Street" and protest the criminals that have crashed the economy causing so much misery for so many another fight has unfolded. The fight to make these folks pay their fair share into the system they have taken advantage of for their wealth. After enjoying thirty years or so of getting by without sacrifice it is now time for them to do something that working American has done for a long time now. Feel the pain for the actions of the very few.

The Rise of Neo-Feudal America

by: RDemocrat

Mon Aug 15, 2011 at 22:56:02 PM EDT

One thing we constantly ask ourselves on this site. Why in the hell do working Americans put up with having most of the wealth and all of the gains of the last thirty years horded away from them?? Well, sadly it seems as if people do not realize just how bad the problem is. Whether by the shamelessness of the media or the fact that so many people are so distracted just making ends meet Americans are simply not outraged by this stealing of the American dream because they just do not know about it.

Ten Years of Economic Idiocy

by: RDemocrat

Mon Jun 06, 2011 at 18:35:32 PM EDT

Tomorrow marks the tenth anniversary of the enactment of one of the most idiotic policies at exactly the wrong time in American history. On June 7, 2001 the Bush Tax Cuts became law with much fanfare and support from both parties. Both parties recently extended them. You really have to wonder just what these "leaders" are thinking when the track record shows easily how these policies have decimated America because quite simply put, they are economic idiocy.

The Success of the Bush Tax Cuts

by: RDemocrat

Wed Jun 01, 2011 at 23:35:50 PM EDT

Can't believe the title?? I mean here at Hillbilly Report we have been burning the presses to tell everyone just how much of a failure the Bush Tax Cuts were. You know, how they only benefitted a very few people, how they widened income inequality and added huge amounts to our deficit? Well on further review while these policies failed our country as a whole on a monumental scale we must reassess our evaluation of them. Yes, unfortunately these policies were and continue to be a success. They are robbing most of America blind.

The Ultimate Budget Hypocrisy

by: RDemocrat

Tue Feb 15, 2011 at 15:39:04 PM EST

It is pretty ironic after politicians in both parties were so willing to throw away nearly a trillion dollars in tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, including themselves to hear them talking about cutting the budget. I mean, was it not the wealthiest of Americans who enjoyed all the economic boom of the last thirty years and then crashed the economy and got bailed out?? Now a battle is being joined between the House of Hypocrites and the White House over how much more the average working American will be asked to sacrifice to protect the wealth and profits of the very few. The only question is how much pain the lunatic right in the House and the center-right administration can inflict on working Americans.
