One huge ideological difference that exists between Progressives and Republicans is that Progressives believe that it is far past time that we invested in our own country and people. While Republicans are interested in investing in China, and failed wars in the middle-east Progressives are seeking to invest once again in our own land and people. While a Conservative and a tea-bagger will tell you this sort of investment is "waste" the truth of the matter is that these investments, far from the bottomless pits in China and the middle-east actually offer dividends to the American people on their investment.
Here in my home state of Kentucky I have long watched in amazement as the voters of this state continually vote against their own interests. With the coronation tommorrow of "tea-party" candidate Rand Paul in the Republican primary, it only cements this point. You see, Paul and his tea-party backers want to "starve the beast" and slash the federal budget down to nothing. They want to do this because the Republicans here have convinced them that the very rich should not have to pay their taxes. The only problem with this approach is that many Kentuckians, including the "tea-baggers" are reaping handsome rewards from federal grants for needed programs.
Embattled RNC Chairman Michael Steele today defended his committee's spending after a purge in "leadership". He gave a Power Point presentation to a closed meeting of Republican elitists which seem to have for now saved his job. Of course, jetting around in private jets and riding in limosines is one thing, but I guess Lesbian bondage is where these hypocrites draw the line.
I found an article today that sums the times up for Progressives quite nicely. It seems that the administration may be "weighing" a fee to recoup taxpayer dollars from the big banks. You know, those very same banks that took advantage of Bush Administration policies to crash the economy and recieve a huge taxpayer bailout after causing huge unemployment among the American people?? Those very banks that are back to business as usual raking in huge profits and paying fatcats excessive salaries. Why are we "weighing" anything??
Ah, here we go again. Last night I wrote this diary about how basically the American people are losing faith in President Obama, hate the healthcare bill in the Congress because it scares the hell out of them, do not care much for the leadership of Democrats in Congress and simply cannot stand Republicans. In fact, the only thing they really like about all of this is the only thing they will not get, a Public Option.
Democrats and particularly President Obama have been taking a lot of heat over the stimulus bill. Now, a lot of people that complain about the stimulus so loudly try to attribute the TARP bailout somehow to Obama too. Despite the fact that Obama was not President when the economy crashed and the banks were bailed out suddenly it is all his doing.
In these tough times everyone seems to be having trouble making ends meet. Many states are no exception. Unfortunately, our state of Kentucky is no exception. We are facing the largest budget shorfall in the Commonwealth's modern history.
All over the nation we just witnesses many tea parties. Tea meaning, Taxed Enough Already. In my own hometown of Paducah, Ky we witnessed one such spectacle. In the end we must ask ourselves just what did this really prove? These protests on spending and running up debt. Did all this fire and anger not spread up a little too late??
